Block Paved & Shingle Driveways

There can be few home improvements that have such an immediate impact as a new driveway.  A tired old drive can really detract from an otherwise good property and adding further parking space can be a real convenience that will undoubtedly add value.

We are Approved Installers of  Marshalls and Bradstone block paving and can advise on their excellent block pavior ranges. Driveway paving is available in a variety of paving types from traditional block paving, cobble style blocks or natural stone setts.

If you're considering shingle, an excellent option is the Ecogrid interlocking stabilisation grids that form an extremely strong "mat" with open pockets that are filled with shingle. Once installed, the mat is virtually invisible and  you have a driveway or parking area that has the benefits of shingle without the worries of spreading and potholes.

Driveway Planning & Advice

During our site visit we will be able to advise you on block pavior choice, drainage and what we will need to do to comply with the "paving in front gardens", (SUDS)planning rules.

Planning is rarely required as long as the drainage is dealt with correctly. As Approved Contractors of the Ecogrid permeable paving system, we are able to construct shingle, Cotswold chipping and gravel driveways that are fully permeable but avoid the problems of spreading and pot holes. If you're intrigued, please check out the Ecogrid web site for details and then contact us for a free quotation.

DRIVESYS THE ORIGINAL COBBLE

The Original Cobble, Patented Driveway System (previously known as Cobbletech) is designed to create a realistic, antique cobbled look. The timeless, reclaimed stone look ensures a grand entrance to suit a wide variety of house types from established period properties to modern contemporary homes.

Drivesys The Original Cobble is available in three complementary colours and five predetermined sizes to create a premium and unique look. By realistically replicating premium natural stone in a patented design, Drivesys The Original Cobble is quicker and easier to lay than natural stone cobbles.

Driveway Construction

The specification for driveway construction is sometimes influenced by the usage and ground conditions, but generally a 1 50mm base of Type 1 limestone is used. This is one of the most important elements, providing the strength of the drive. A Terram geotextile membrane is used where necessary, (especially on suspect ground). If block paviors are used, they are generally 50 - 60mm thick, bedded on a 50mm sharp sand bed. These are then retained with kerbs and drained into a soakaway, or run off area. Shingle drives are laid to a typical depth of 35 - 40mm on top of the stone base. Stabilisation grids can greatly improve the performance of a shingle drive, reduce spreading and crushing.
